What To Expect During a Pediatric Sick Child Visit

Nobody wants to see their little one suffering or feeling under the weather. Fortunately, either Dr. Dawn Polly or Dr. Eugene Golding of Express Pediatric Care Children Clinic, serving Greenville, SC, and the nearby region, offers sick care to help your little one recover quickly and get back to living and loving life.

However, as a parent, you may wonder what to expect if this is your first sick child visit or at least the first one at our practice.

Fill Out Paperwork

At the first part of a sick child visit, you'll need to complete a medical history report. In it, you'll answer questions about your little one's chronic illnesses, allergies, and more. The purpose of it is to help our pediatrician diagnose your little one accurately and provide them with the best possible treatment for their needs and situation.

Visit With a Pediatrician

The next part of a sick child visit at our Greenville, SC, office is the actual visit with the pediatrician. During this part of the appointment, a pediatrician will ask you about the symptoms your child is experiencing as well as when they appeared. Depending on the particular diagnosis, we may ask questions about any traveling your child did, as well as other similar questions.

Sometimes, the practitioner may request your child undergo certain testing, such as having a culture performed, which allows us to test a sample to determine if there's a microbial presence.

Keep in mind that your little one may not receive a diagnosis the same day. Sometimes, it takes a little time to test the sample. For instance, a strep culture tends to take 24 to 48 hours until you receive a diagnosis. Another example of a test we may recommend is an X-ray, like one to evaluate the lungs.

Diagnosis and At-Home Instructions

Even if it's not the same day you visit, we'll provide your kid with a diagnosis. We'll provide you with a treatment to help your child recover either more quickly or in general.

Sometimes, we may not be able to treat the illness in your child. This particularly happens when it stems from a virus. In these cases, we'll then provide you with information on how you can optimize the recovery and keep your little one as comfortable as possible while minimizing the risk of complications as your child heals.

Express Pediatric Care Children Clinic, serving Greenville, SC, and the neighboring communities, can help when your child is under the weather. Either Dr. Polly or Dr. Golding will evaluate your child, diagnosis them, and give them the treatment most suited for them.
